Today is the fifth day of our SPM examination. Many unexpected incidents have occurred since the first day.
Due to continuous rain, many students turned up late for the first paper,Bahasa Melayu. When I asked why, their response was they couldn't get out from their house since it was raining quite heavily that morning. They came in damp clothes and wet shoes.Pity them. They had no choice but to answer questions in cold and wet clothes.
Then in the afternoon, one of the students,Hazizul, was involved in an accident. While he was riding on his motorcycle on a wet and slippery road,a car came from behind and knocked him down.He was brought to the clinic. We thought that he was going to miss his BM paper 2.However, God is the most merciful and the best planer. That afternoon when the chief invigilator opened up the question package,it was found that English 1119 Paper was inside the BM package .The chief quickly put back the questions and sealed. He didn't open the question or else he would have to be quarantined for the whole night. As for the students they were quarantined for one hour in the hall, waiting for the set of BM paper 2 to arrive from JPN which is 25 km away.
As for Hazizul, he managed to be brought back to school after treatment, just in time for BM paper 2 to start. The paper started at 3:00 pm,an hour later. So Hazizul, despite the accident you are still considered lucky. You still can sit for the paper,in pain though.
On the fourth day, which was yesterday, again some of the students could not reach school on time.Certain kampungs were flooded. Some came in ordinary clothing and slippers and changed into school uniform once they reached school.
To play safe and to avoid from getting stranded, some of them decided to take shelter from their friends' houses. My sympathy is for them .What if they were my children,I would be worried to death. These students are considered strong, mentally and physically, able to endure the rain and the flood to fulfill their parents' hopes and realize their dreams.Bravo kids!
Should the school administrators have opened up the hostel at this time ,these difficulties could be reduced and any misfortune could be avoided.I am just an ordinary teacher who does not have a say on this matter but could only give my helping hand when needed.I hope these misfortunes will serve as a guidance on how to act and what to plan for next year.

La kesiannya dengar.Teringat pulak cerita zaman my dad membesar...pergi sekolah tak pakai kasut..
These kids yang go thru all this pysically and mentally ,I salute them.Insya ALLAH ,God will grant them the best results and better life...
These are the things, value of education that I want to instill in my child.
Only god knows how kids now a days are a lucky lot kan..most of them anyway...
Salam to you Madam Gold
I am so sad to hear the predicaments of these students.
Despite their challenges, I pray they all ultimately still manage to get very remarkable results.
They are all very admirable!!
I saw the news on TV this morning and the flood is getting worsen. I hope and pray it will subside soon and give relief to our kids especially, to sit for their exam in peace. All kids should have strong spirit like Haizal and his buddies.
Flood in our northern/east coast of Malaysia is very predictable. It becomes like an annual celebration, year in year out. Like you said madam, the authority should have anticipated and oversaw the needs of the affected citizen and get more prepared. A proper and centralised relief center specially for these schoolchildren who sit for their exam is a good one madam.
Salam ibu rene,
Yes,we must salute the students.Despite the obstacles, all turned up for the exam.Yang selalu tuang kelas pun datang to sit for the exam.
I guess the town kids are lucky, parents are more educated n rich, kalau boleh mum and dad nak hantar sampai pintu dewan periksa , nak tunjuk full support.
But for my students, they have to find their way to get to school. On the first day tu,hanya guru2 yg mengiringi mereka masuk dewan, tiada ibu n bapa pun datang.Sedih jugak saya melihatnya....
But year to year, the school still can produce doctors, dentist, engineer etc.
Yes Datin.Hopefully these obstacles in a way can help to boost up their spirit to do well in exams.
Let us pray for the best.
Thanks for visiting again doc.
You are right.Year in year out the situation is the same.Rain and flood at this time of the year. They should have learnt this lesson long time ago.
But some people just take things easy.I guess they just want the position but not the responsibility and accountability that go with it.
Tak mahu susah2 n fikirkan masaalah.
Muga tak kena anak depa!
I think high time for the ministry to allocate some money for the temporary hostel esp. SPM time...Kesian je tak cukup
Hope these students will do well in the exam..
Salam Madam Gold
Amazing kan with the product of yoru school.Dr's ,Engineers...
I salute them:)
Dear Puziah,
My school does have a hostel.Tapi yang funny nya, bila school closed hostel tutup. They dont occupy for the SPM students. So after the accident the other day the teachers went berserk, blaming the admin.Tapi orang admin kata it was already finalised in admin meeting to close the hostel. And that s final.
Pelik kan.So students suffer just because of a few selfish lot who do not want to shoulder extra reponsibility.
SOme of the my students are bright students.
They were offered a place in boarding schools and MRSM after their PMR but they turned down. Some went but after a few months cabut balik.
The reason they gave was cannot adapt to hostel life, cannot follow the style of teaching and studying etc.
These kids are very kampung, they need to be spoon fed most of the time.
Here teachers supervise them closely, give tuition day and night and even week end.Kalau di SBP or MRSM they are much on their own. So,that s why some of them cannot follow and cabut balik.
But we are glad to have them back, at least adalah flying colours result.
